I have recently (finally) upgraded to WinXP Pro
via a new laptop.
I find the print so small I can't read it without
glasses which are
cumbersome and uncomfortable. Guess I'm getting
older.
I tried changing to a larger font and kept getting
an error msg
which told me to change to the default font. Now
the error msg's
have gone away but I can't read such small print.
Is there any
way around this? Of course, didn't have this
problem with Win98SE.
I have a Dell Inspirion E1505 with OS: WinXP Pro
1 gb or Memory and Hard Drive.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Try lowering the screen resolution by one setting, or go into
Device Manager and set the DPI from 96 to 120. The lower the
resolution, the larger things will be. The higher the DPI
setting, the larger the images.

I went into Device Manager but could not find
anything related to DPI.
Where exactly to I find this? Thanks !

Jus right click on the desktop and on the popup windo
select/properties/settings and from there it's easy, just change th
resolution down a bit and the font size up a bit or both. You ca
experiment freely, can always go back where you were.

I did as directed and was able to change the font
to "large". But it
only changed it in the actual size of an e-mail
sent to me.
All other pages, including the web page are still
in "extra small".
Any more ideas?

You should know by now, that every body and his dog have their own settings. And you have to modify each and every one of those settings. there's no 'one setting fits all' anywhere on the machine.

Desktop fonts -> START -> CONTROL PANEL -> Appearance and themes = hundreds of font settings depending on which desktop you choose, and how you want each window to appear. 1-2 hour job.

Desktop fonts -> START -> CONTROL PANEL ->network and Internet connections->Internet options->general->accessibility = couple different ways to modify fonts on the web, ignore settings, create your own 1 size fits all CSS for web browsing.

If you're nearly blind, then you may need the high contrast settings. Or customize for yourself.

You HAVE to change the screen resolution. The lower you go the bigge
the icons and letters will be.

Thank You for your caustic reply. Do you always
do this to handicapped people.
I thought this area was for "NEW USERS". I'll
give it a try !

Excuse me. Funny how 'you'll give it a try' Get over this PC. I gave you what works for ME !
I'm nearly blind. and have attempted the high contrast, and prefer to build my own CSS and use IGNORE web fonts.

Just what I was listening to from someone else today. I have no clue whatthe PC crap word for blind is.

And here you have the nerve to accept the help then gripe about how the help was worded. You hate how I write, just kill file me. I don't really need to hear how you misinterpreted what I wrote and expect me to bend over backwards trying to make it more clear than I did.
Your handicap is you think you should be coddled by others including those with the same problem.

Define NEW USERS. I've been at this more than 7 years on windows, and other computers since 81.

It's for anyone with a PC.

And while we're at it. Everyone and his dog has different settings. Meaning you can change the font sizes and types in more than 50% of the stand alone programs you have. IOW changing windows fonts may have zero effect on anything by adobe. You'd have to configure adobe. etc..

Like I said 1 size does NOT fit all.

Sorry if you read it wrong, I was not griping
about what you said but insulted by what you said.
Re-read your response and see if maybe you maybe
see how one could take it as a slam against
handicapped people. If you are blind maybe it
would have been better to say, "I am nearly blind
and this is how I do it to make it more
readable.........." . I would not have taken it
as a caustic reply that I am so dumb and you are
making fun of blind people. I have a handicapped
son and am very sensitive about people making fun
of him and others like him. Have you ever thought
about posting your ideas for those that have a
sight problem.
I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated.
Enough now, let's put it to
bed.................Bubey

There wasn't anything caustic about my reply. it was short and accurate, and as an after thought the nearly blind comment originally came from YOU. I repeated what YOU said to explain why I don't use high contrast. If you want to read from the real experts on blind web navigation, see what they reply to my request for CSS with frames to modify both frames.
ie: The Jenna Von Oy news page. It was smaller than I wanted and no amount of tweaking would change it till I modified the page on my machine.

The only thing I feel needing an apology for is using my spell checker too fast. Were <- this a perfectly good word, it's not the Where I wantedto start this message with, and my thinking moving faster than my fingers, I drop words like 'this a " should be 'this is a ' but no spell checker will find that. And getting into semantics on the web is asinine.Got lots more things to do than explain why I didn't spell out my reply in a Shakespeare play, and opted for a reply that you can follow the steps and help yourself.
