Hi,

Setting up a 2003 server with 5 clients. Will install AD domain. How
do i get the clients to resolve internet address if I have DNS
installed. where do I put the External ISP DNS addresses? I haven't
done this before so bit unsure.

No matter what size your office is, if you have an AD Domain all clients and
servers _must_ use the internal DNS server. No ISP's DNS allowed in TCP/IP
properties in any position. Use your ISP's DNS _only_ as a forwarder on the
Forwarders Tab.

Sorry Kevin - do you have any other links like this for setting up
DHCP in small office environment.

There are links but it is faster to type out what you need than trying to
find it.
When you run the new scope wizard it will run you through the scope setup,
choose a private range, for a small office of less than 254 clients use
192.168.x.0 24 bit with a netmask of 255.255.255.0 this will give your 254
usable IP addresses
First useable IP in range 192.168.1.1
Last useable IP in range 192.168.1.254
Number of useable IPs in range 254

Then set the IP exclusion range for static machines like servers and
printers.
Set these lease time
Set up these options.
003 Default Gateway (Router)
005 DNS server
015 Domain name
044 WINS if you have WINS (required if you have _multiple_ subnets and you
have applications like Network Places that uses NetBIOS.) If you only have
one subnet you likely won't need WINS and you can skip that setup.
Default on XP is to get NetBIOS setting from DHCP, so if you want to enable
NetBIOS over TCP/IP on XP add option 046 set to 0x4.
The last page of the Wizard is to Activate and Authorize the DHCP server in
AD.

After you have the Scope Authorized in AD click on the properties of the
scope select the DNS tab (this is option 081) If you have Win9x clients you
can set DHCP to register these clients.
