We enjoy playing games on line, but with this new computer all the game
windows are only 3x5 or 4 1/2 x 5 1/2. The maximize button has been
disabled. Is there a way I can override this. Too small to enjoy!

Hi M.L. Vis,

Check your manual and see if they list instructions there as to
which BIOS setting or keyboard Fn key you can use to setup
"Fit to Screen" video mode. That's a common laptop feature.

Examples:
Fn+T works for some HP / Compaq's
Fn+F7 works for some DELL's

Another thought that comes to mind is to see if you can start
the game in window mode using a switch (check the game's
readme file) and then maximize that window to Full Screen. ;-)

Please post back with your finding, and I'll add it to my KB. :-)

I appreciate you response, Jimmy S. But I have no manual and attemped to
explore the BIOS myself, but really didn't know what I was doing so I quit.
And as far as the using "switch". The games online don't have a readme file
that I can see, so didn't try this method.

You don't really say if the games are web based games or ones you bought
at a software store and are utilizing on line features on line.

You also don't indicate if you are using a notebook computer or a tower
system. If you are using a tower system we can't tell if you are using a
CRT or Flat Panel LCD.

With web based games (usually Java, Flash or occasionally ActiveX based)
you're usually at the mercy of the web site. The site could have
developed the game so that it is compatible with displays running at
relatively low resolutions like 640 X 480 or 800 X 600. Such designs
would start to look small at higher resolutions like 1024 X 768 or 1280
X 960 unless the diagonal measurement of the display is substantial
(like 17 or 19 inch).

In many cases the only way to get a larger game image is to temporarily
change your display resolution to a lower setting. That is normally a
feature of the computer's video accelerator properties. Changing the
resolution to a lower value for notebook and other flat panel displays
MIGHT just reduce the overall size of desktop, leaving black bars around
the edges. With other flat panel displays you might get distorted or
blurred images. there's even a possibility the lower resolution will
work well. Capabilities vary according to the hardware developer's
design theories. Readjusting resolution back to its normal value might
be awkward after reducing it to 640 X 480.

Hi M.L. Vis,

You can find the Make and Model of your motherboard stamped
on the board itself or by using the Belarc Advisor:
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html which will find your
Main Circuit Board type, then you can download the manual from:,
http://www.motherboards.org/manuals.html

Thank you for the responses to my question. The games in question are web
based and I have played with the resolution but does nothing to the size of
the game window itself, just makes the background larger. I am using a flat
LCD screen and a tower system.

Got the info from BeLarc Advisor. The Make of the Main Circuit Board is MSI
AMETHYST-M 1.0, but couldn't find anything resembling the part # that they
asked for on the mother board site.

Any suggestions?

If you are using a brand name PC (HP for example) you should be able to find
the manual with BIOS instructions at the manufacturers website.
