I know quite a few people here own/run small businesses, so hopefully you'll have some good software advice :D

I set up as a small business for webdesign, SEO and programming over last summer, and I'll be doing the same again this time. I'm looking for some good software that I can effectively "keep the books" with, which is easy to use and ideally can submit the information online. (I've kept good records in Excel so far).

I've checked out Microsoft Money Deluxe, but it comes with TaxSaver 2004, which was was the 2003-2004 tax year - so that wouldn't apply to last summers earnings would it?

Is there any software you can recommend to make things easy?

Me_2001, you may just be a life saver :)

Since I VAT registered, I've been having troubles using my old accounting system of 'just a bunch of spreadsheets' :D So this may fit the bill, d/l as I type this.

I'll let you know what I think of it.

In the past I have used various accountancy packages. Sage was horrible and I couldn't get on with Quicken. I tried a trial version of MYOB (Mind Your Own Business) and I liked that, it's UK made and I was impressed.

And judging from reviews I've read, it still seems that way now, as do Sage & Quicken.

I was actually on the verge of buying MYOB, but I shall try this freebie first, thanks for the link :)

my dad hs been using that for about 10 years, my mum has been on at him to get quicken but he's happy with his spreadsheets because he knows how to use them if my mum isn't about

I tried that freeware one you pointed out but it didn't go down well with my PC! I think its because its Java based (although I did update to the latest release).

Any luck at your end Floppy?

Haven't tried it yet and I'm unlikely to install it this evening.

Likely tomorrow, I'll let you know how I get on.
