I've installed BCM V2 onto my PC but still recieve an error message when I
start Outlook that states: 'The operation failed. An object could not be
found.' I haven't quite figured out what that object is, but I have been told
to install the SBS2K3 patch BCM KB831747, but everytime I try to process the
install I receive another long error message that states: 'The upgrade patch
cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to
be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different
version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your
computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch.'

I'm at my wits end, can anyone provide some guidance for me to move forward?

Thanks

Jeff

the patch error probably means it can't find v1 to upgrade - it's not needed
for v2.

Did you try a new profile in outlook? Does the outlook error say BCM or
Outlook in the title bar?

The Outlook error message specifically says Business Contact manager, in fact
it appears as though it's attempting to load something just prior to the
error message coming up. You see the horizontal load bar for about 3 seconds
just before the message.

I did not try to create a new profile. I'm unsure how to do this. Will the
new profile still point to my existing Exchange mailbox? Or do I setup a new
user in Exchange? Please help to clarify that procedure and thank you much
for your help.

One other issue of note here is that during setup and the creation of the
database I tried to setup the local MSDE database; however now when my system
boots up the SQL Server Service Manager in my system tray points to the SQL
Server loaded up on my SBS Server. Could it be also that I may need to move
the BCM database there? That doesn't seem right.

Thanks again

what the service manger points doesn't have any effect - you can point it to
you local db, but don;'t need to.

OK, I created a new mail profile, the setup went as you stated no problems,
BCM started as before and then as soon as I clicked finish that same error
message popped up: 'The operation failed. An object could not be found.'

Should I be running something like filemon to try to find out what the app
is trying to call when it all breaks down?

Yeah, it might help, especially if you already tried Detect and Repair.
