Let me make it easier for you.

Demanding are we? How about an "If no, why?" option?
I don't want to see the death of MP3 although it crossed my mind - with a
small grin - it might be good for Apple/Microsoft in the long run. Is
Alcatel-Lucent being greedy? That really is not for me to say as I've not
looked into it hardly.
What if Apple and Microsoft, hit with billions in penalties, just say: "OK
bud, fine, but don't expect our operating systems and players to support it"
... perhaps even with Apple and Microsoft exchanging formats ( i.e. both WMA
and AAC on both platforms out-of-the-box)?
Well, I guess I'd have to convert my MP3s to AAC or WMA and use plain ol'
CDs in the SONY radio. But for the meantime, I prefer a format that the SONY
radio with CD player, the NanoPod, and Windows Media Player will all play -
and that, for the time being, is MP3.
