Vista runs very well on C drive however I have a backup folder located in D
drive everytime I need to access my backup folder in D drive things slow
down considerably as soon as I click on my backup folder in D drive I get a
massive amount of disk activity and the cpu usage goes up to 100% and the
system hangs for a good 20 or so seconds before it lets me access the
folder.
This is also the case when I transferr files to my backup folder the
transferr rate is very slow and takes up a lot of resources

Does anyone else have this issue ?
I did not have this issue with build 5384 or with build 5600 this has only
presented itself in build 5728

Will,

Are C and D partitions on the same drive or is D on a separate hard disk?
Not that that will illicit further help from me... but other's might have a
clue.

Vista is installed on C drive (40Gb ide) and my backup folder is in D drive
(250Gb Sata connected directly to the M/b not through an adapter)
I have both drives setup for sharing so that there are no UAC issues and I
have ownership of all files and folders on both drives, and also indexing is
enabled on both C and D drives
