Slug speed XP Home ed.

Like many people have written, my computer has gradually
slowed down to slug-speed: on start-up, opening
applications, even connecting broadband! Will the repair
CD reinstall XP and sort the problem out? Does anyone
know? Plz hlp. RAM and processor speeds are not the
problem!!!
