Over the past month I find Internet Explorer has slowed
down dramatically. My cable ISP says the line is fine.
I've done a total Norton SystemWorks check and corrected
all errors.

What might cause this on Windows 2000?

The "usual suspect" is spyware, software that reports what you do with IE to
a third-party. You can search the web on just the term spyware, and among
the hits find spyware removal tools. The AV vendors are also offering
spyware removal tools, and I understand that NAV 2004 is supposed to detect
spyware. Personally, I use ad-aware from Lavasoft for home use; see
www.lavasoftusa.com.

As Greg mentioned, Spyware would be a top cause. Just to add you may want to
defrag your hard drive and clear yor temporary internet files and cookies in
the tools/internet options general page [do before a defrag]. See the link
below about parasites and how to deal with them. If none of that helps, you
may have a problem with your nic card/drivers/configuration. Run netstat -s
at the command prompt to see if you are getting excessive errors/bad
packets. --- Steve

I need to add to not rule out virus/worm infection particularly if you are
not using a firewall, up to date virus protection that scans all emails,
and do not keep current on your critical updates at Windows Updates.
Sometimes it also helps to power off the modem for 30 seconds or so. See
link below for more info on protecting your network. --- Steve
