Slowness in the last few days

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 which I've had less than three months. In the
past week or so been it's VERY slow and sometimes freezes, where I've even
had to pull the power cord and take the battery out to get it started again.
I've always had Norton protection on it (anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall,
anti-adware), so I scanned for these things and it came up with nothing. I
scanned with Windows Defender -- again, nothing. Maybe I should post this in
another board, as it's also slow starting in general, but I notice it most in
IE. Anyone have any ideas on whether this is a software or hardware problem,
or what I could try? Thanks.
