Starting up IE has suddenly become very slow, as is opening of windows for
executing Java applets.
I tried emptying cache and removing spyware (I am well protected I think).
Once started, performance is normal but I have to wait minutes before IE
opens.
What could I try?
Win XP Home, sp2 IE6

Thanks in advance.

Last time I had a slow startup issue it was due to a Browser Helper Object
that was being loaded. Get BHODemon (check Google for downloads, it's no
longer being updated but it still works) to selectively disable each one in
turn until startup is quick again.

Or you could just choose "Tools" and select "Manage Add Ins"

Wow, that one worked immediately. I went to 'Manage add-ons', and disabled
"SSVHelperclass", and that was it.
Things are simple if you know it.
Long live usenet,
Thank you very much!

And thank you, contrary to popular belief we are ALL here to learn and are
doing so all the time (Except some of us older ones who are forgetting most
of the time :)

Often there is more than one possibility and it is always good to get a
reply indicating whether we got it right or hopelessly wrong.

Well, I learned some new stuff this week but I think I forgot some things I
used to know. <G>

Well, it is the least I can do apart from asking questions...

As it happens I forgot to eat dinner last night - seriously. :)

Back was acting up a bit so I went to lie flat for a while, fell asleep,
5:00 am when I woke up (sigh). Is what you get from working 7:30am to 8:00
pm I guess :)

Well, I'm the cook in the family and my wife doesn't let me forget dinner.
I don't think I remembered breakfast today, though.
