HELP!!

My XP crawls when it is logged in. I have already enabled pre-fetch etc...
and added tweaked settings.

It is also with the latest Service Paks. Any hints appreciated...

And what is the settings for IP address? Obtain Ip Automatically? If it is
then set ur IP to use a private IP such as 192.168.x.xxx

Good Luck

Do you mean just logged in to the system and all your progs are slow or
logged on to the internet.

my XP has 768 MB RAM DDR, 60 GB HDD, 12 HDD Free running on 1.6 GHz
processor.
Internet is ok once the programs startup and load on the system tray. during
this time, it takes approx 2 minutes.
It wasn't like this. I once tweaked the settings ok and it loaded fast. Then
my HDD crashed and I reloaded the image from backup and then the startup is
slow....
Is there any system settings I overlooked ??

You mentoned startup as well as log-in. For the former,
download BootVis and use it. It lays out the boot files
at the beginning of your hd. Search with the term
BootVis at the microsoft site and it should bring you to
it.

I have these tools.. BootVis only works for a while... after sometime, you
must always run it again so I gave up.

Diskeeper on the other hand, may be better for you...

Hi Jtan,

Check your windows startup items.

Start > Run > (type here and press enter) MSCONFIG

Then, you will see Window Configuration Utility.
Look at the "StartUp" items list.... probably you need to uncheck
any box to disable any unneccessary programs that runs in
windows background.

When you're done, follow these step:

1) Click OK.
2) Click Restart Button (that appeare soon after you've click OK)
3) When you back to Windows, wait for Windows Configuration Utility
pop-up message. Click on the checkbox and click OK...

You are done.

---------------
Suppose you have noticed a wierd or suspicious character in the
"startup items" list, try to uncheck. If it stated in two lines uncheck
both checkbox.

When you done, follow step 1 and 2 above.

When you back to windows, wait for Windows Configuration Utility
pop-up message. This time, just click OK to go back to Windows
Configuration Utility - Go to "StartUp" (sections). Look again at
"Startup items" list. ****If you notice the line which you have uncheck
earlier have cloned or check by itself.... Believe me it could be a big
problem.

Try to scan with an antivirus program... if undetected or the program
undable to clean them. You need to modify you Window Registry.

But doing so could caused your computer in a big risk unless you
familier with Editing Windows Registry.

Target:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\Load
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\Run

and

HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Load
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Run

Good luck!

Krappo.
