I'm running into slow file transfers between XP clients and a W2K
domain controller that I just built and patched to the latest SP.
I've seen the KB articles about tweaking SMB and ACK settings, but I
don't think they apply to me because the file transfers are slow
regardless of whether I use xcopy or the GUI.
Also -- and this is REALLY weird, IMHO -- initiating the copy from the
XP client to the Win2K server is MUCH slower than initiating the copy
of the same client files from the Win2K server.
In other words, if I am on the XP client and copy a directory of ~100
small text files to the server it takes 8 minutes. But if I go to the
server and copy the exact same files from the XP client to the same
location on the server (by creating a network share) it takes less
than 30 seconds.
So it can't be a hardware thing.
Can someone please tell me how I solve this problem? It's very
inconvenient to have to run to the server to initiate file copies in
order to save time!
