I've seen several references to the problem of very slow
typing (ie. program lags by a few seconds). I've
searched my computer for a virus and find none. Does
anyone have any other suggestions. I use XP and Office
2003. The problem is also happening with Word. Thanks
Tom

what a minute tom!!!!

dont do the hardware accelerator thing just yet.

if your pc is slowing down. so much so that there is a lag with
typing. then you either do have a virus or you have a registry
problem.

what virus software are you using? try panda.com's free online scan of
your pc. i have been using trend microsystems, reporting nothing
wrong. but i knew there was, tried panda and "pang" ....found 8!

try this first. if it reports none.

download adaware. its a freeware scan that will remove any adware/
spyware that you may have picked up that the virus scans dont find.

after that, download ReSupremePro and do a deep scan of your registry.
remove everything that is obsolete.

i betcha after doing these 3 simple things your machine is back on
top.

remember. its better to fix the problems than try to use something to
disguise them.

on another note tom, and not to be niggly. this is a forum for
microsoft powerpoint related issues. you've actually got a hardware /
system problem.
just a future note.

ok, good luck with cleaning up that machine.

If that doesn't do it, then -- and I don't know that this will fix your problem -- I'd try this:

With all due respect, why not? Setting the hardware accel back takes at most a few
seconds and doesn't require adding yet more software to a system that's already running
slowly.

If it works, you know it's a video driver problem and can direct your attention and energy
where it'll do the most good. If not, you set the accel back and you've wasted what, a
minute or two.

Given all the nasties out there, it's not unreasonable to diagnose a virus problem, but
there are other reasons why PowerPoint might slow down (antivirus software, Outlook
journaling, etc). It's best not to jump to conclusions w/o any real evidence.
