Thanks to anyone who can help.
I have read many threads regarding this matter, both within these discussion
groups and other forums too. All suggestions have failed in our environment.
Basically, Excel and Word documents are slow to open in Office 2007 when
opened via (for example) double click. They are not slow to open when opened
via the open dialog mechanism via the Office 2007 button. This is not a file
size, network or antivirus issue. The same problem exists when trying to open
a very small file from (for example) a file copied to the local desktop with
antivirus software completely disabled. I am also sure this is not a general
PC performance issue for at least 3 reasons...
1. Open via open dialog works virtually instantaneously
2. Task manager is not indicating any performance issues
3. In other use, the PCs are working very efficiently (and have, in fact,
only just been completely 'rebuilt')
All our PCs exhibit the problem and all PCs are clients on SBS2003 domain
with XP Pro and Office 2007 Standard. Here are the things that we have found
to try out, all of which have failed to solve the problem...
1. Add "%1" (with a space before it) to the end of the file association's
string for Open
2. As no. 1 but untick the DDE box (although the box can be unticked
something ticks it again!)
3. Install an Excel Add-in (which presumably would not have cured the issue
in Word anyway)
4. Tick the box to ignore other applications that use DDE in Excel
Options/Advanced(which presumably would also not have cured the issue in Word)
