Slow to load. Why?

The sitemeter is slowing everything down. The rest of the page loads
quickly on DSL.

I removed Site Meter from the addresses below. How is it loading now? Any
suggestings for counting visitors that won't plant cookies and take forever
to laod. I notice the paypal button is even planting a cookie..

The agent page loads ok...but the pop-up slows things down too.

Remove it
Users w/ Win XP SP 2 will never see it
- just don't use popups that users don't initiate w/o a click

The pages (except the alias page) all load very quickly, but the home page
takes a second to render after downloading. Perhaps you should rethink the
Home page, use it to introduce the company and move the forms to other
pages.

I do not see any pop-ups. All my browsers are set to disallow automatic
(onload, onunload) event driven pop-ups, and this is the default in IE6 SP2,
and Mozilla FireFox.
In my opinion, if a user leaves your site they have a good reason for doing
so - an onexit pop-up will be a major annoyance. There is rarely (but they
do exist) a good reason for a pop-up on entry to a website, there is NEVER a
good reason for a pop-up when leaving.

I do get people who register for my mailing list from the pop-up. More than
who register from the form, so it can't be totally useless. But like you
said, XP won't even show it. And although pop-ups are a little annoying IMO,
I have ordered due to pop-ups on leave before. At least the one's that
sweeten the deal as I'm leaving.

BTW, it does pop up on my XP machine. It's only with the default settings do
they do not pop-up. I want to see pop-ups. Depending on when the pop-up
shows itself and where, it lets me know it's time to run the spyware
scanners. Actually I was planning on getting rid of the pop up. I put the
form right on the page as a compromise approach to the pop up. But now I'm
told it's slowing down the page load. An other ideas?

Maybe you want to see them, but many others do not. Are you willing to
take
the chance?

You're right. It's not very professional. The pop-ups are history. Speaking
of professional, I can't seem to find any themes or templates that are
professional looking. Am I better off with Dreamweaver or something if I
want to get more serious? I just like the way with FP it's easy to change
things. What about these new Dynamic Web Templates. Any suggestions?

I think it's the operator, not the tool. I think it's quite possible for a
clever and experienced web developer to build a site in FP, or DW, or
Notepad that looks professional and is completely 'authoring system'
agnostic, in the sense that you would not be able to tell which one was
used.

If you are not one of those rare and lucky individuals, then I think it's
unlikely that switching from FP to DW will improve the LOOK of your site.

If a switch is something you are inclined to do anyhow, then I'd say to
Google for "templates FrontPage" and then "templates Dreamweaver" and see
what you find. I do know that I have seen VERY nice templates available for
both, but do not have any specific recommendations. In fact, all you really
need is a nice PNG/PSD file of the layout, and you can create the site's
pages from that....
I just like the way with FP it's easy to change
things.

You would find the same with other programs.
What about these new Dynamic Web Templates.

They are just templates. There are some advantages and some disadvantages
to their use, however. The important issue is to find a layout scheme that
you like first....

Sad but true. I've kind of stayed stuck with the ease of Front Page. I
couldn't construct a site in Notepad to save my life. :) Where do you
suggest I start learning it the right way?

I've had a number of CSS books, IMHO the best is HTML Utopia from
www.sitepoint.com it's leaning towards table-less design but the concepts
are fine for table based.

I particularly like the way the content is delivered where you dive in and
do stuff, then get filled in on why/how it works.

I'd just get a reasonable book on HTML/CSS - pick one that is targeted at
your preferred learning style, either a tutorial or resource approach. You
can find many good tutorials at http://www.w3.org, and
http://www.bignosebird.com, too.
