When I open an email in Windows Mail and want to highlight and copy
some text from it, the highlighting is very slow, it highlights the
first letter then stops then highlights a bit more and stops, and so
on until it has highlighted all the text I want it to highlight.

Anyone else had similar problems and a way to fix it.

thanks,

Paul

Sounds more like a video card problem. I've got one here that is running XP
and does the same thing. I threw in a cheap video card just to get it up and
running. During the beta testing of Vista, my 128 meg ATI card wasn't enough
to run it and would do similar in Word when highlighting.

Don't know what processor, how much RAM or video card and RAM you have but I
would say the problem lies there.

And yes, some of the "new" computers I've seen on the shelves aren't enough
to actually run Vista.

Can't repro your issue. On my laptop, it highlights just as fast
as I can move the cursor.

I just bought a new HP w/Duo Core & NVIDIA video card. Downloaded the
latest drivers (otherwise DVD playback wouldn't work). But I'm
experiencing the same problems. Please help!

Symptoms: Opening a mail in Windows Mail takes more than a second,
selecting text forces the CPU to be working at 100% for over three
seconds...

Any suggestions are appreciated. Please do not reply with your
frustrations with Vista.

Try running Steve Cochran's WMUtil to compact and repair the WM database.

I had the same issue and this worked.

Do you have Spybot S&D installed and/or Spyware Blaster?

Thanks for the quick reply, unfortunately, the program didn't do much
for me. When I click on the Calendar and return to WinMail, everything
works very fast (like I would expect) -- for that one session.

Yes I have Spybot S&D.

Please quote at least part of the message to which you reply to keep the
context. Spybot S&D, if you choose the immunize function, populates the
restricted sites keys in the registry with thousands of entries. This can
be a problem. If you use immunize, from Spybot S&D on the immunize section
click on Undo to see if that helps.

Otherwise I have no additional idea on this.

There is some sort of known issue with Calendar being able to speed up
WinMail as you describe, but its not understood what the interaction is or
what causes the delay for some.
