Greetings:

Please tell me how I can improve my system performance.
My Windows 2000 professional was installed about 8 months
ago. I run basic MS office application and Norton System
Works 2004. I have cleaned and de-fragment the disk but
the system is still quite slow.
I was told that I need to format and install the OS every
6 to 9 months. IS THIS TRUE? Reinstalling all the
applications is a pain. Is there another way?

If I must do this is there a simple way to build an image
of the disk using a DVD drive so I can re-image the C
drive and restore my data

It is not true that you need to reinstall the operating system every 6-9
months. Right click on My Computer and choose "Manage Computer." Look at the
applications log and the system log. Is everything loading correctly? If
not, the Knowledge Base can help you solve your individual problem.

The system performance is directly proportional to the speed of the
hardware and inversely proportional to the amount of software, doodads
and eye candy running on the PC. So in other words, buy faster hardware,
more RAM, etc. and don't install, run or use unnecessary programs or
features.
