Uninstall Norton. It is a hog and that is why your computer is so slow.
Some suggestions for better antivirus protection are Kaspersky, NOD32,
and I use F-Prot on my Windows machines.

The suggestion you will most often get from the knowledeable people here is
to uninstall Norton Security and replace it with better, and less
performance-robbing alternatives.

It's really amazing how much trouble people have
with Norton software, and how much it is hated and
maligned (all of which I totally agree with), and yet,
partially out of inertia, we keep using it. Anyone who
has tried to fully uninstall it gets to hate it even more..
it takes pages and pages of printing out instructions,
and when you're done....they still have their sneaky hooks
buried in your machine.

Speak for yourself Bill. NEVER used it and never will.

If you study William's post you will actually find you agree with each
other.
One word used by William "maligned" was the wrong word to use as it
does not fit in with everything else he said.

The only difference between you is that William is basing his comments
on having used Norton, whereas you are relying on what others have
told you.

Hope this helps.

Not entirely true. I've been involved in computer support for a long
time and I've dealt with Norton on many occasions. Just because I don't
use it doesn't mean I haven't had any experience with it. Most of
which was bad.

Well a different type of experience then. In essence you are saying the same
thing
"Try another AV programme".
