Hi!
I'm running WinXP sp1 with LAN.
When starting my computer, after the taskbar appears, it takes up to two
minutes before other programs can load, or the taskbar can be used.
When I disable the LAN, the computer starts normally.
I do not have an assigned IP.

Thanks for any help!

Sincerely, Asle

Well, it does look like your LAN is the problem, in that it is taking
its dear, sweet time with DHCP.

If you don;t use network printers or networked shared folders, disable
automatically searching for them in

control panel/folder options/view

Disable the first option, automatically search for network printers and
folders.

I you dont use a camera or scanner, disables the windows image aquisition
service.

start/run
services.msc

Scroll down, and double click on it.

Change startup type to disabled.

Reboot.

Thanks for helping!
It didn't work though. :)

I use a webcamera, turning off image aquisition didn't give any result.
I have tried a clean boot, but the only thing that works yet is disabling
LAN.
I do not get any error messages in the Event Viewer.
Great if you have any other ideas.

See if it actually is the time its taking to aquire its ip address from the
dhcp server,

go to a command prompt and run

ipconfig/renew

Does this take a long time ?

Then run

ipconfig/all

Should also show the name of the server it obtained the ip address from, is
it the right one? Is there more than one dhcp server on the network.

Has it got the right ip subnet address or maybe it defaulted to a
169.xxx.xxx.xxx address when it didn't get a response.

Does this system connect to the internet directly, or through the LAN?

Are you running any firewall or antivirus software, these can cause hangups
in starting ?

When you say disabling the lan, are you disabling the actual device in
device manager, or stopping a service ?

Download a copy of bootvis and use it to see what services are taking a long
time to start. See the bottom graph of the boot trace.

ipconfig/renew runs quickly, and the ip addresses seems to be correct. The
first six numbers are the same as in my address, 129.240... All exept
"Subnet mask", which is 255.255.254.0. I assume this isn't the error.

The computer accesses the internet through LAN.

When I run a "Clean boot" from msconfig, antivirus and firewall is not
loaded, but the problem persists.

When I say I disable LAN, I disable the local area connection in Network
Connections, not in device manager.

When running bootvis I found that the files msdtc.exe and MS fax console
uses most time. I've uninstalled the fax app, but the startup still uses
over a minute after the taskbar appears. It seems also that the file
mqsvc.exe can be a problem.

During the loading of these files, CPU and disk usage is nearly zero.

Thanks again for helping!
