Slow Startup once XP Loads

Hello, I just got XP Home for my desktop yesterday. I had it on my laptop
for about a year now with no problem so decided it was time to upgrade my
main computer. I did a full install of it (no upgrade)

My problem is this. Once XP loads and I see the desktop and it seems
everything has loaded in the background, it still pauses. I will try to
open a folder or click on the start menu and nothing happens. The mouse
still moves but nothing happens. This lasts for about 2 minutes everytime.
It has never happend on my laptop before.

I checked to see what was loading in the background but everything seemed
fine.

I know it is not the biggest problem, but it is something I would like to
fix, also it makes me wonder if there is something running in the back that
should not be.

Thanks for any help.

Hello Adam,

The easiest way to determine if it is something running in the background
that is causing the delay is to perform a "Clean Boot" of the system.

Hi,

You may have compatibility issues. Did you check to see
if XP would work with the hardware on the main system? If
not that could be the problem. Was the system store
bought or did you build it yourself? Usually, after an OS
is loaded on a newly built system, you need to load the
INF file for the motherboard, right after the OS install,
to make use of the chipset the board ships with. If you
had a brand name computer like Dell or HP you should have
purchased the XP upgrade ver to upgrade an existing
system that had the OEM factory INF file configuration
for the mobo used by that OEM pre-installed. You may be
able to update the drivers for the hardware and solve
some problems too. I am not sure whether the full ver of
XP will upgrade but it might, if it does you may have to
reinstall from your old system disks then upgrade to XP.
