Hello,
Could anyone please tell me what I can try to speed up my computer when I
start it up or close it down?
It will take 4-5 minutes to do both.
After that the speed is just fine.
Thanks,
Deb K

Hi Debbie, the best thing to do is to UPGRADE to XP PRO, |Vista is still in
nappies and untill it graduates from collage it should be removed from the
open market

Mark,
Collage? Are you saying Vista is a work of art? (collage (From the
French : coller , to glue) is a work of art, primarily in the visual arts ,
made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole). I
tend to agree with you. I think Vista (other than Basic) is absolutely
stunning when it relates to visual effects.
I do disagree with you on your statement that "Vista is still in
nappies and untill (sic) it graduates from collage (sic) it should be
removed from the open market". My personal opinion, of which nobody cares
about, is that the users who cannot seem to effectively use Vista are "still
in nappies", still learning how to use the Vista OS.
For example, my Vista Ultimate has an average "boot time to desktop" of
between 65 and 70 seconds. My average "shutdown" time is 10 to 11 seconds.
Not bad for Vista in nappies. If you are running XP how do my logon and
shutdown times compare to yours?
Microsoft has sold in excess of 100 million licenses for Vista. That
leads me to believe that there are many people who like to use an OS "still
in nappies".

Hi C.B.
I see you sign your posts with

"> It is the responsibility and duty of everyone to help the underprivileged
and less fortunate among us."

An operating system is just that, an operating system, not something to make
you mad at.

To say that users are in nappies is an unfortunate term on your part as you
cannot buy a machine in XP format from a high street supplier off the shelf,
it has to be a speacial order, therefore are you saying that Microsofts
customers are in nappies and unable to choose between operating systems, type
slow vista into the google search bar and see the number of forums and helps
on how to speed it up

If you think that people who place questions on his forum are
"underprivileged" you now know how we feel about people with your attitude.

you say you have an average boot time of 65 - 70 seconds and a shut down of
10-11 seconds, you are either running with all the elements of VISTA switched
off (so whats the point of VISTA)or you are hibernating your machine.

A work of art VISTA might be but my machine is meant to do work, not hang on
a wall or sit in a gallery and look pritty

Regards Mark

I replied to this post earlier today but my reply was not sent to the
discussion group. I don't know why. Nevertheless, here is a shortened
version of my unposted reply:

Yes, I sign my replies with the above listed signature. If you would
read the statement again maybe you could understand it. I have the right to
express my opinions regarding the welfare of the underprivileged and
unfortunate people of this world and I'll be damned if I'll ever let someone
prevent me from doing so. What don't you understand about it? Please advise.

Sorry. My Vista has never been slow. It has always been faster than my
XP machines. Please excuse me for telling the truth.
If you think that people who place questions on his forum are
"underprivileged" you now know how we feel about people with your
attitude.

When and where did I state that people who place questions on his (sic)
forum are underprivileged? The signature is just that, a signature. If you
wish to criticize me for stating that people with the means to help the less
fortunate should in fact help them then that is your opinion. I sincerely
hope you never find yourself in the position of these people. I refuse to
apologize for wanting to help the hungry, homeless, diseased and government
oppressed people of this world, people in such circumstances through no
fault of their own. I genuinely feel for them and I have spent decades
trying to help them, always on a volunteer basis. Don't pat me on the back
for doing so. I don't want accolades or credit for doing something you and
everybody else should be doing.
What is wrong with my attitude? Are you saying you and others dislike
me because I have the firm conviction and desire to help distraught and
oppressed people? Am I some kind of jerk for wanting to better the lives of
people? Please enlighten me as to why my attitude is offending. I want to
hear your answer.

I haven't turned off any of Vista's features. Every single one of them
is running. I do not hibernate or sleep. These two functions are turned on,
but only for my APC battery backup because I prefer to shut down correctly
in the event of a power failure, thereby not losing any data or files and
lessening the possibility of corrupting my hard drives. If you wish, please
see the screenshots below for my startup and shutdown times. Look at the
timestamp and date on each screenshot. These were taken several days ago. If
you want a current screenshot I will provide it for you. Don't insinuate
that I am not being truthful just because you cannot get your computer to
function properly. Nothing offends me more than being called a liar.

Yes, my computer looks pritty (sic). However, it is capable of doing
any work I choose, and I choose to do so every day.
