In the past week, my computer is taking several minutes
just to start up, whereas it used to only take seconds.
Why is it doing this and how can I fix it?

You'll get better help if you include more information
about your system: XP-home or -pro? Make & model of
computer? Pentium-2,3,4? at so-many MHZ processor speed,
if you know, other programs that you have, particularly
ones that run all the time or you use a lot, etc...
If slowness comes on gradually, it's probably an
accumulation of little programs that stay in your system
and use up resources; if it happens all at once, you may
have picked up a virus. Computers don't sneeze, so it's
harder to tell... have you scanned your computer with a
virus program? If you go to "kelly's korner" (look around
here for the address) there is a utility which allows you
to see what processes are starting up during your boot
process. Look for "boot vis." Good luck. -Eric
