Hi
on my newish dell, it starts up fine, but then for 2
minutes it freezes up - if i open a window striaght away,
it freezes for 2 mins then is fine. After the 2 mins, the
icons in the bottom right corner come up - is something
not loading properly - how can i find this out?

Many thanks for any help!

See "Resources for Troubleshooting Startup Problems in Windows XP"

Download Spybot and Ad-Aware 6 from www.download.com and check for spyware, they are a HUGE problem for slowing down PCs, I would say a slow boot up could be an old/damaged IDE cable (from my experience) but if your PC is new thats probably not it. Also, make sure you scan for viruses. But be sure for sure to download Spybot AND Ad-aware... they are a MUST with the growing spyware market. Thx for reading, I hope I helped

That could be your antivirus. Most antivirus programs
will perform a quick scan(30 seconds) or quick check
before it starts up. Just a thought!

Or just type MSCONFIG in the Run box then hit the STARTUP
tab to see what programs are starting up when Windows
starts. On a typical new Dell there will be about 11
programs that startup automatically, which slows down the
startup a lot.
