unble to repair, so I reinstalled XP on the same
partition, but it is very slow at startup any ideas.

Hi there Edgar,

Bootvis is a Boot performance trace visualization tool for
use with Windows XP systems. It gives a graphical view of
what processes are doing what and when during boot and
allow you to optimize your boot up. A very handy tool.

Download Bootvis:
http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/platform/performance/fastboo
t/BootVis.asp

In addition, you may try disabling some startup programs
using MSConfig:

Click Start->Run type MSCONFIG and click OK.
Click Startup tab and deselect unnecessary programs.
Click OK.

You now have XP installed with no updates. Suggest you update first.

Venkatesh and Edgar,

I have teh same problem.

I did the following:
Start \ run \ msconfig \ startup tab

On General tab by default it is by default checked "Use
normal start up".
After I disabled some programs I am getting every time I
start Widows the following message:
You have used the System Configuration Utility to make
changes to the way Windows starts.
The System Configuration Utility is currently in
Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode causing this message
to be displayed and the utility to run every time Windows
starts.
Choose the normal startup mode on General tab to start
Windows normally and undo the changes you made using the
System Configuration Utility. If I follow this advise,
all programs are again enabled automatically.
What am I supposed to do?

I found that the following programs under Startup tab
were enabled:
ccApp
ccRegVfy
Winampa
qttask
Save
P2P Networking
Wupdater
points manager
CMESys
ctfmon
msnmsgr
Gsturtup
Microsoft Office
Symantec Fax Starter Edition Port
DirectCD
Kaza
MsnMsgr
Acrobat Assistant
Billminder
GuruNet
Quicken Scheduled Updates
Quicken Startup
Which of thse programsd I can desable without damage to
the Windows?
For now I disabled all programs from Direct CD to the end
of this list.
Thanks.
