Justin

I use to have blazing internet speed when downloading
items/updates from the internet, but one day it decided to
crawl to a slow creep. I have no idea why my computer
decided to do this to me, and I would like to know what I
can do to fix it. All the network computers are working
just fine, and my status shows that my connection is still
proper and I have not made any changes to any connection
preferences. It will start off at downloading over 100kb/s
then it will drop down to 19kb/s and even lower. Webpages
also take an extended time to load some times. HELP!

Computer Seems Slower........

Use Disk Clean Up, Disk Defragmenter on a regular basis.
Spyware and adware are programs that are installed on
your computersurreptitiously. They get onto your computer
when you install various software programs, such as
Kazaa, or by visiting some Web sites. Then they send
information about you, such as your surfing habits, from
your computer through the Internet or deliver pop-up ads.
Since these programs run in the background, they eat up
system resources and slow your computer down. To remove
these programs you can do the following:

Run a virus scan with an up-to-date antivirus software
package such as Norton's, McAfee's or AVG Free Antivirus
to make sure that the spyware is
the only problem slowing your computer down.

Download a copy of either Spybot Search and Destroy or Ad-
aware, which will identify and eliminate most of the
spyware and adware programs.

Download a pop-up stopper/blocker. Google offers a free
toolbar that has a built in pop-up blocker that works
about 95 percent of the time.

Here are some Links to free programs that will help.

Darnko - Fortunatly I use programs like that on a frequent
basis (every other day) [ad-aware, and mcafee virus scan].
Also, I run disk clean-up and disk defrag. I still have
slow speed??? Should I reinstall my ethernet card perhaps?

How are other things, any process taking up CPU...Have
you done the Network Diagnostics on the Help and Support
page under tools. You can use the performance moniter to
monitor and see exactly what is happening in TCP. Maybe
you Event Viewer has some info an event or recurring
error perhaps I have errors and only way I know about
them is to read about it in Viewer. NIC cards aren't that
hard to change out. The best and Good luck,
