After installing XP on a new Foxconn motherbard fitted with a AMD64 dual
processor 4400+ I decided it was time to try out the 7.1 channel audio. In
horror everything played at near half speed! The new motherboard Foxconn sent
didn't fix the problem which left XP, the AMD64 dual processor support or the
NVIDIA force 4 MB drivers. I finally gave up trying to pin down which one an
installed an old PCI ESS card that was in another system. The ESS works fine
so now I'm really baffled about the problem. Since WMP has a speed control I
figure the problem must be XP. Any clues?

Try different speaker settings that your system soundcard may support,
Like the Surroung Sound or the 5.1

Oh I tried all of that before sending the motherboard back for replacement. I
removed all of the audio codec and ran each one alone and in pairs, etc. It
took about 2 weeks. I sent emails to Microsoft, AMD and NVIDIA without
response. Even Foxconn stopped replying after the motherboard was replaced.
The XP SP2 fix that adds a usertimer to the boot.ini doesn't work either.
Personally I thinks its an XP, AMD or NVIDIA interface issue no one has had
enogh complaints about yet to justify a good look and fix.

This type of issue came up with NVIDIA and certain sound
cards back 1 year ago on the older 32bit system. It is a
compatibility issues between Graphics card drivers and Sound
card drivers. I suggest trying Turtle beach 7.1 Audio or
Creative Labs. Since the ESS card worked, and it was older
technology, that should have clued you in.
