Slow Sound Response

Lately, all three of my Win XP Pro systems appear as if
the sound driver has been unloaded. If I cause an event
that is supposed to give me a "bing" (such as closing an
altered TXT file without saving it) sometimes it will
take as long as 30 seconds before I get the "bing".
Meanwhile, the system hangs until the "bing" arrives.

I have tried loading a WAV file into the Media Player and
pausing it (then putting the player on the taskbar) but
that doesn't seem to help.

Since I have three different sound cards I can't believe
they would ALL have problems with the drivers.

Any help

Hello Wm,

Try the following first -

A) Go to Start\Run and type
MSCONFIG <OK>
B) In MSConfig, choose "Selective Startup"
C) Remove all check boxes except "System Services"
G) Click the Services tab and check the box for "Hide all Microsoft
Services."
H) Uncheck all others left in the Window.

Reboot, then test our issue.

If the sound works fine, then start enabling items to find out what is
causing the problem through process of elimination.

If the problem still occurs after clean booting your system using MSConfig,
then try removing 2 of the 3 sound cards to make sure their is not conflict
occuring. It is possible that something has become corrupted in one of the
drivers.

You misunderstand. The three sound cards are in THREE
computers - not all in one. I'll try the solution with
msconfig though - although I have tried it once before to
no avail.
