Slow SMB File Transfer between NT 4 Dom Controller & Win 2000 MmeberServer

I posted this earlier in the microsoft.public.windows.general group,
but I think, it is better asked here, sorry for x-posting:

Hello,

i´m facing the following problem:
2 Servers:
- NT 4 Domain controller PDC (all SPs applied)
- Win 2000 Standard Server Member Server (all SPs applied)

All Clients are getting files from both servers with "normal" speed.
Any SMB File transfer between both servers is absolutely slow.

All clients and the 2000 server are connected to one switch, which
is uplinked to another switch where the nt4 server is connected.

Any idea how to speed up the server data transfer?

I had a short look at it, beside all the other articles on slow network
performance. After your hint, I looked at it again. I think check out,
if some of the backup software was/is installed on one machine.
