SLOW SLOW Search on LAN for word DOCs

Ok I'll say this first Computers SUCK but I do love em.
Has anyone come across something similar to this or a solution

After spending countless hrs searching the web and news groups I have seen
that I am some what alone. My work LAN has a mix of OS all Microsoft of
course. When doing a search (old or new) search engine of a LAN folder
containing approx. 18k word files, well not even this particular folder lets
say searching for any file. The search could be 10 secs one day and 10
minutes the next. Now I've found if I run 2 searches simultaneously the time
is just a few seconds as long as they are both searching, when one stops the
others slows down again. This happens on all works stations. And not all at
the same time One could be fast while the other not, at any given time. I've
tried reg tweaks I've tried speed tweaks I've replace network cables,
reseated NICs , Rebooted router, Now rebooting the computer does seem to fix
it temporarily of course. And I have even tried 3rd party search software.
Same deal. I AM AT WITS END. Does any one have any IDEAS?????????

You might try this ng:

microsoft.public.word.setup.networking

or some of the other microsoft.public.networking groups
