Slow since adding iPod

Got an iPod, loaded the software, including iTunes. Now my system is hanging,periodically the CPU usage jumps to 100 and stays there. No viruses, cleaned out the spybot, using window washer, etc. Problem started not long after the iPod arrived.

Have you uninstalled the iTunes software?
I know that when iTunes was originally released for windows it was less than
two weeks before patches came out for it to fix the same sort of problems
you are seeing.
