Slow signon

Does anyone know why, when I signon to a domain on a particular PC, the signon stalls for several minutes with the message "Applying your personal settings" before it continues on normally? It is a windows 2000 professional machine with all the current service packs installed. The signon works fine on another Win2000 machine.

Any help, or knowledge of what is happening at that point would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Mark

Have you checked the DNS settings for that machine to make sure it's the
same as the other machine not experiencing the problem? Does it have a
different computer policy (through GPO/AD)?

I have been experiencing this issue for two months now it comes and goes. This cannot be a DNS issue. This must be a convergence problem, within Microsoft. If this was a DNS issue, or a group policy then it should impact all workstations simultaneously & continuously. Not once in a while. Daniel Can you research this a little more Please. This seems to be an issue, which has allot of unknowns behind it

Thank

Well, I would guess there could be a problem with the personal settings on
this one PC. User profiles can be damaged, with interesting results, but
that is not where I would look first. Have you tried signing on another
account? Remember, on first sign on, Windows has to create the profile, so
the first sign on for another account may seem to take a while. Signing on a
second time would be more indicative.

I googled microsoft.com for "personal settings", and two articles caught my
eye.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329457
about a complex array of group policies, and
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;315270
This one deals with a too small paging file, so check that. Similarly, make
sure that this PC has adequate CPU & RAM.
