Slow shut down etc...

I'm having problems with shut down. It takes about 25 to 30
minutes before the "It is now safe to shut off your
computer" comes up. It should only take about a 30 to 60
seconds, correct?
I installed iTunes and it takes 10 to 20 minutes to start
up and the one time I saw it I minimized it because I was
doing somthing else and it would not come back. The tile
for it would sit in the taskbar but the only option I was
given when I right clicked would be to close, then the
"this program is not responding..."
The perfomance of my computer slowed down and I started
having problems around the same time that I downloaded
iTunes. Is there some compatability problem?
I went to the set progam access defaults>add/remove windows
components and recieved the following message:
Setup was unable to open information file fp40ext.inf.
Contact your system administrator specific error code is
0x2 at line 2011777033

Then

The application could not be initialized

I'm doing my best to solve the problem myself, any
suggestions would be appreciated.
