Hello,
I have a screaming system but whenever I right click an
icon or start button or even open up a new my computer
explorer it just sits there for up to 2-3 minutes waiting
to open.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Matt

Matt,

I have a similar problem occuring in Windows Explorer, and
from a post I was told a virus might be causing the
delay. They recommended going to Symantec's website and
using their Online Virus & Security Checker to try to
identify it on my machine. Might be worth a try.

Hello,
I have a screaming system but whenever I right click an
icon or start button or even open up a new my computer

I caught the same problem today (January 8).

Other symptums are that Microsoft Word is often delayed in
starting up:
Double click on a Word document or run Word and the
"This product is licensed to" splash screen appears right away,
but may take 30 seconds for the Word window to open.

In addition the:
"Requesting virus scan..."
line may also take 30 seconds to complete, rather than just a
second or two.

I noticed the problem after attempting to run a program a demo of
a program that was supposed to be a diagnose my computer for problems.
I don't know if the demo caused the problem, but my system is not OK
now.

The symptoms on my computer went away after a few hours.

It might be that this and a bunch of other problems with
delays in starting programs that started on January 7 to January 8
were do to the problem described under the subject
Application Launch Delay
in this news group

It seems that there was a problem with VeriSign around that time
that caused at least some of the symptoms.
