Hello,

I just bought a brand new Compaq with a 2.5 gig celeron,
384M of memory and a cable modem internet connection.
However, when I type text in fields on various web pages
(such as yahoo) or highlight text, there is a delay betwen
when I type and when the text appears. Also, when I use
the scroll bar, it lags. This does not happen on all web
sites. For example, I can do all of the above things on
google with no delay or lag. Can anyone help me fix
this?

I bought this computer so my wife could work from home.
But she works through a web based interface and the lag is
making it difficult for her.

Thanks,
Adam

Thanks for the link to the article, but it didn't help.
The article says that it applies to Win 98 and IE 5.0-
5.5. I'm running IE 6 on Win XP.

Anyhow, I'm still having trouble typing text in fields,
highlighting text, and using the scroll bar on some web
pages (e.g. yahoo mail).

The delay I am experiencing can be explained as
follows: When I am typing quickly, the letters I am
typing do not appear in the field on the web page as I
type. After a few seconds, the letters suddenly
appear all at once. I experience similar problems
when highlighting text. I place the cursor on the
place where I wish to begin highlighting. I then move
the cursor over the text that I wish to highlight.
Nothing happens for a couple of seconds, then suddenly
the text appears highlighted.

Although I experience this problem on some web pages, I
am not experiencing it in the window I am typing this
message in. There is no delay while typing, or
highlighting. However in a seperate window with yahoo in
it, I am experiencing the delay.

Any advice?

Adam,
Do you have any of Yahoo's Toolbars installed?
Start there = uninstall, reboot reinstall ... (if not)

Adam,

I recently had problems very simialar to yours and tried all the
things suggested by others who have posted to your problem.

I downloaded Spyhunter / Spybot Search and SpyRemover (SpyRemover only
identifies potential parasites, etc. ... you have to buy the program
to remove found problems.)

About a week ago I ran Spyhunter and Spybot; let them identify
potential problems and then removed the items they found. No
correction of the problem.

Today I did two things:

1. I followed this advice at:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,1390577,00.asp
which tells how to remove a potential trojan horse: Qhost-1. (I don't
think this was the fix but who knows.)

2. I reran Spybot again and had it remove everything it found (just
like I did a week ago.) I rebooted and lo and behold this frustrating
problem was gone.

Maybe this will work for you also.

Good Luck,

Larry
