Slow program/document response

Dear all, is there an option within Windows where users can speed up the
response of the programs, and therefore avoid the delay before Word & Excel
(either a program or a document) open? Please help me have my Word & Excel
open instantly. My Power Point opens instantly, but Word and Excel take
around ten seconds to open. I have Toshiba A15-S127 with 756 MB of RAM. The
machine uses Intel Celeron 2.0 GHz. I have recently deleted my hard disk and
installed Windows XP 2002 Home Edition – Service Pack # 1 again in order to
have Word and Excel open instantly. I installed Microsoft Office
Professional just after this. At that point, Word and Excel started
responding excellent – instantly, until I installed McAfee and Microsoft
AntiSpyware Beta. After this, Word and Excel started responding
significantly slower, but Power Point did not slow down – continued to
respond instantly. I hope my problem can be resolved.

Probably you have your antivirus set to scan Word and Excel files for
viruses. Disable this option if you want those apps to load faster.
