After installing some Windows updates my PC is much slower
now at the personal sign-on screen. It hangs for a good
minute now where it used to be a few seconds. I checked for
the Sasser virus and I'm clean. Anybode else experience this?

Does Event Viewer offer any clues as to the cause?

Make a note of the precise text of any error message. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID: and Source Description are important.

Well, I took your advice by doing a advanced clean boot
troubleshooting. Not that I found excactly what process was
causing the trouble, but when I performed a normal boot
afterward, the problem cleared up. The personal settings
icon stays on for only a few seconds again.
