I manage a relatively small network, consiting of 50 users and three
servers. The server rolls are:
1) Domain Controller - (also handles the 6 printers)
2) Exchange Server
3) Database Server (Running Filemaker)

The MD has complained that at 8:15 - 8:30 every day the Filemaker
applications dramatically slows down. At this time most of the users will
be login into there machines.

I think the reason for the drop in performance is becuase everybody is login
to the network.

Does anybody know the best way to increase network performance? Also what
happens when a client logs on to the Domain?

TIA

You need to perform some detective work.

Check the traffic on the LAN. Are there lots of collisions?
If several people are hitting the network with data, It will certainly slow
down. You may need a Gigabit card on the servers into a Gigabit switch to
help manage traffic. We have only 40 people in our main office and they
strain the 100bps Ethernet even with the switches I have setup. The next
server will have Gigabit Ethernet!

Check the Server's performance. What is the processor and memory
utilization? What is the CPU speed?

I don't know much about your database, but optimizing the above two items
will help as databases tend to slow with multiple users. Some of the
database engines have tools to optimize their performance for a particular
situation.
