Slow PC

As of late my XP has been starting up and loading any
window very slowly. Help and Support can take up to one
minute to load. Doesn't sound like very long but it is
when you're sitting waiting. I notice in my msconfig 40
programs running in startup. Where do I go to find out
which are necessary and which are not? Thanks for any
input.
 
None are really neccessary. Just look at what they are, make a judgement
call and disable them. None will stop your computer from booting, although
some may be necessary for certain peripherals. If you disable one and it
turns out you do need it, just re-enable it.

be a virus, but I would like to find out how to tell what
programs are running. Hope you get an answer.
