slow pc

My pc runs really slow. I defrag and cleanedup all temp
files etc... added more memorey. It seems to take forever
to do anything. example slow start up, even when i click
the start button it seems to take forever before it comes
up. I'm running windows xp 256 memorey, processor is fast,
40 gig hard drive. Help!!!!!!!!!

JJ answer a few questions for me so I can help.
1) when did it start running slow?
2)Is the memory you have compatible? IF you have a store
bought PC Such as DELL or Compaq you cant just Dump
memory in them without checking with them first.
3)Have you added any other drivers, software of hardware
that dont belong in XP.
3) Go to Task Manager and check to see how much processor
usage is taking place. We will start from there.
