Apologies if this has been posted recently - I did look!I am running Outlook
2002 on Windows XP Pro and on loading, And in general, performance it seems
dreadfully slow. Could anyone offer ideas as to how to improve performance,
please? My machine has plenty of RAM and a decent enough processor - 1.4GHZ
so i am perplexed as to why it is dragging along sooooo slowly.

Many thanks in advance.

There are so many variables, it would be impossible to go through them all
here. Here is a few:

How much AVAILABLE ram do you have. Look in Task Manager. Click on
Performance. Look at graph, and memory. Make sure the memory is, in fact,
the proper amount you have installed. Then click on Processes and hit CPU.
Look to see if something is using your CPU resources heavily.

Is Kazaa running? (It can slow a machine to a crawl.)

Hard drive fragmentation and all that stuff. Does your hard drive always
seem to be running. Check the Hdd light.

Virus(s), running background programs can cause this.

A LOT of TSRs could be loading. Go to Start, Run, type in msconfig. click
Startup. Uncheck anything not needed. Click Services, Uncheck anything not
needed. Be VERY careful with this one. It can cause havoc.

Go to Control Panel, System. Click on Advanced, Performance, Settings. Play
around in there.

Hope this helps!

If you have Instant messaging turned on under Tools->Options->Other, either
uncheck it or ensure it is set to run in the background.
