Slow Offline Folders and VPN

Good day

I'm trying to help a user who has an offline folder set up from our
corporate server. When he's in the office, it's great, when he's offline,
it's great. The problem he has is when he connects to a relatively slow VPN,
the offline folder goes 'online' and when he opens documents, they open from
the server and this can take a long time. Is there a way for him to be on
our VPN but for his offline folders to stay offline ?

Not sure....
OT, but for remote/laptop users, I prefer www.centered.com.
I am not a big fan of offline files!
