HELLO AND PLEASE HELP.

I just recently started encountering this problem.
Before I moved, my network worked great. After I moved
and hooked the computers back up, I ran into the
following problem. I pulled this symptom from the
knowledge FAQ base.

When you attempt to browse the network by means of either
My Network Places or a program (that can access network
resources), your computer may experience an extreme
slowdown or the program may display a "Not Responding"
message

They said the cause is I have Kaspersky antivirus
installed on my PC. I don't. If I wait 5 minutes, the
program responds. Either accessing the drives through
the 'My Computer' or Nero. I just reformatted in hope it
would solve the problem it hasn't. This only happens on
1 of the machines. I have 3 PC's. 1 is a Dell 600SC
running Windows 2003 Server. My computer has Windows XP
Pro, and the second computer has the same. It is the
second computer that has this problem. I can't figure
out why. I have tried so many different things. Please
help.

Amen Brother. I've been fighting a new XP box since last week. My problems
are mostly in network browsing, either through Network Neighborhood or
through any of the programs files browsing interface. It could pop right up
one time and take 3 minutes the next time. My machine is also a Dell, though
I will bet this is an XP issue, not a Dell issue. All my W2K workstations
are fine.

I have 6 of these to roll out, and right now they may just roll out to the
dumpster. I'm wondering if its a 3rd party thing though too, since it SEEMS
to run fine in safe mode. Though the fact that the problem is intermitent
makes it hard to tell just WHAT IS or ISN'T going wrong.

If you find something, let me know. I'll do likewise.

Thanks!

xp hardware like nic settings is different from previous os. so, check the
NIC and switch/hub settings for example, duplex.

I'm sorry, what are you suggesting? I get the impression you are suggesting
we toy with the NIC settings until we find one that works. My office is
running on Certified CAT5e wiring to HP 10/100 Switches. All my Win2K boxes
work flawlessly, so I can't believe this is a network speed/congestion
problem.

Could you explain a bit more what in particular you think the problem might
be?

Thanks!

I'm hoping to get an answer soon :)
I only experience this problem on one of my XP machines.
My personal XP machine browses the files, and mapped
drives without a problem. I have 3 machines networked, 2
are WinXP Pro, and the 3rd is a Dell 600SC w/win2003
server. I didn't have this problem a month ago. When I
moved and hooked everything back up, I have the problem.

Nobody seems to have an answer.
