Slow network speed

Very odd problem.
There's a connection, but its very slow.
The computer was working fine till last Wed.
Its an XP going thru a router to a cable modem.
The other (wireless) computer on the network is flying
pretty fast, so there's no problem with the modem or
router. The ethernet cable is also fine.

I can ping, but 1 in 4 packets gets lost.
I tried to "repair the connection".
I did an ipconfig/renew.
I restarted everything fresh.
I checked for a virus.
I can't even get the router program up in my browser, so
the local networking is also affected.

None of the usual "tricks" seem to work. Any idea of the
possible problem?
Thanks,
Roger

Go to the Properties of the NIC and try changing the network connection
speed. It's best set to Auto Detect. If it's already on Auto Detect, change
it to 100mbps Full Duplex. Reboot and change it back. Then, reboot again.
