I have a pc connected to a network that is very slowing
browsing the network through network neighbourhood. Also
when you goto open a file in any Office application it
freezes for a while before listing the drives etc. Once
it has listed the drives it is fine in that application
until it is shut down and started again.

I've tried varies solutions from the KB but no luck.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Hello,

Browsing is an antiquated technology which has never been re-engineered.
Anything can disrupt it, hardware, software and changing server roles
around.
Browsing is always based off of WINS and/or broadcasts. Browsing via
broadcasts is connectionless and by definition unreliable.

Suggestion 1.
I would start by removing all third party management software off of the
machine. Such software appends filters on the protocol stack and are not
removed by disabling the software but only by removing it. Once removed
test out your browsing functionality. If more solid, try adding the
software back one at a time until you find the offending one.

Suggestion 2
Bind TCP above all other protocols.

Suggestion 3
Use browstat to see what this machine thinks is the domain master browser.
