I have connected a win2k pc to my hub which my winXP pc is connected to,
they can see each other fine and both have 10/100 NIC's.
I wanted to move 6gb of files from one to the other and it's telling me it
will take 2days!! In windows task manager the network is using 1% of 10mb!!
Is there something slowing this down like my virus checker or something
else, if it is my virus checker surely it would be quicker than this(and
i've tried turning this of to no avail).
Anyone enlighten my on what's going on??

Thanks
Si

Who built the cables?

I bought the cables new. I have several cables and have tried them all, even
one from work which works fine. The only cable I can't verify is a new
x-over cable I bought new the other day in case it was my hub playing up. I
have now connected them box to box and it's still very slow.

Ugh. Well, that rules out the hub and probably the cables.

When you have the two nics directly interconnected, do the two nics run at
100mbit/full duplex?

Si - similar problem - almost exactly the same setup. Cables not the issue
not the router. Suggest you do a technet serach on SMB problems. None of
the hotfixes have fixed our Client's problem, however. have a look at
KB321733 and advise if you are experiencing the same issue?

Regards, Cindy

Will advise if we find out what's going on.
