The router gives out the addresses
cable modem 141.xxx.xx.xx
router 192.168.0.1
WIN 2000 192.168.0.4
SBS 2003 192.168.0.250 assigned
How are your PCs getting their IP addresses? Are you running DHCP and
DNS
on the server, or is the router giving out IP addresses?

Opening files is slow. also with MSACCESS with the front end on the
WIN2K
and the back end on SBS 2003 - the app runs very slow, because it takes
a
long time to retrieve the data from the SBS PC.
I have the same app running on a WIN 98 PC it retrieves the data
from
the
SBS MDB very fast.
So it is only affecting the WIN 2k BOX
The SBS address is 192.168.0.250
the DLINK router is 192.168.0.1
The WIN 2K is 192.168.0.4
Can you clarify what settings should be used with DNS to get the
best
performance
The router is connected to a cable modem
thanks in advance

How's your DNS? Is DNS running on the SBS2K3 Server? Are the clients
set
to look at that DNS for name resolution?
Can you define more clearly the "slowness" you're seeing? Are file
moves/copies slow? Or is it just opening files?

I have a network where I have just introduced an SBS 2003 server. I
have
also made TCP/IP the main network protocol.
Since all this has happened, file sharing traffic across the network
especially to my WIN2K box has been slow.
Initially I thought this was due to problems with SMB signing on the
SBS
2003 but even after disabling this - it is slow.
The network card reports 100Mbps connection. But opening word files
across
the network is noticeably slow.
Thanks in advance
