slow modem speed after upgrade

Microsoft team: I recently upgraded from Windows ME to
Windows XP. I kept most of my old hardware. I have
noticed my Internet browser literally uploads 6 times the
data it downloads. Why is this? This significantly drags
my dial-up connection to the Internet. Is this common?
Is this what I need to expect? My Internet speed is
horrible compared to what it was with 98 and ME. I've
searched for any network setting and security programs
open on my computer. I have no automatic virus scans. I
have also updated all my drivers since the upgrade. The
change to Windows XP has caused unbelievably slow changes
in my PC. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I recently upgraded (ME to XP) as well and have the exact
same problem as you. My modem will upload 7 megs of
nothing before it will download 500k of anything useful.
Just wanted to let you know your problem is not unique.
Hopefully we'll find a fix.
