Frequently, when I am using my Word 2003 on my Windows XP system, the
application is slow to respond. For instance, when I go to delete a
paragraph from my text, it may take up to 10 seconds for the paragraph to
disappear. Other times, when I want to get out of Word 2003, it may take
the same amount of time to get back to my desktop. This condition has not
always been that way; it's only within the last several months that this
began to happen. I have plenty of memory on my XPS system so that is not
the problem.

Any ideas what may be causing this slowness? Thanks in advance.

Jack, simplest thing to do is to uninstall Word and then reinstall it.
That's if you have the MS Office CD. Do it from Add/Remove
programs in Control Panel.

you might try to test the
performance of the program
in safe mode and then in
safe mode w/networking.

if it works better in safe mode
then there is a chance that it
is something in the normal mode
that is causing the issue with
word.

Try the following. Try it you will like it :-)

Find normal.dot and rename it to normal.old. (normal.dot will rebuild after the
following) Now open Word and see if your issue has improved. Let us know
