Slow logon to XP

We have a Dell at home with WinXP. Recently it started
logging on very slowly. We have about 4 different logons
and it happens when you click on an individual logon
button and it's "Loading your settings" or something like
that. Takes a couple minutes for the desktop to come up.

Any ideas how to diagnose and/or fix this?
 
First click start, run, type in msconfig and click OK. In the startup tab
unclick all programs not needed at start up. Shut down all virus scanning
programs.
